Tungsten Heater in Electron Emission
Tungsten heater is a thermionic cathode heating element used for electron emission, fabricated from high-purity tungsten wire and typically formed into spiral or coiled structures through precision bending and winding processes. It functions as a cathode or electron source component. When operated under high-vacuum or controlled atmosphere conditions, it enables stable thermionic electron emission and is widely used in vacuum electronic devices, electron microscopes, and medical imaging systems.

How does a tungsten heater work? In a high-vacuum environment, the tungsten heater is heated by applying an electric current, raising its temperature to a level sufficient to overcome the electron work function. Once a sufficient temperature is reached, electrons in the metal gain enough energy to overcome the work function barrier and are emitted from the material surface, forming an electron flow, which is known as thermionic emission. By adjusting the heating current, the electron emission intensity can be controlled to achieve stable electron beam output.
