Tungsten Electrode in PAW
PAW tungsten electrode is a non-consumable electrode used in Plasma Arc Welding (PAW), continuously emitting electrons to maintain a stable welding arc. With a melting point as high as 3422°C, tungsten can withstand the high-temperature plasma arc environment over long periods, making it one of the most essential core materials in the PAW welding.
Compared with traditional Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, PAW provides a more constricted arc, higher energy density, and deeper penetration. As a result, PAW places higher requirements on the electron emission capability, dimensional accuracy, and burn resistance of tungsten electrode.
1. Working Principle of Tungsten Electrodes in PAW
Under Direct Current (DC) power, tungsten electrode functions as the cathode and emits electrons. The electron flow interacts with plasma gas passing through a constricting nozzle, ionizing the gas and generating a high-temperature, high-energy-density plasma arc. Arc temperatures can reach 10,000-30,000°C, enabling stable and efficient welding.
